The approach in this model assumes that the coachees already
have what they need to resolve their own issues. The coaching collaborative partnership is
therefore more about helping coachees to reflect on their own issues rather than
helping them to fix it. It allows the coachee to be open-minded and to reflect deeply on
his or her situation without having to come up with a solution. The coach may challenge
the coachee’s basic assumptions and frames of reference.
Reflective Coaching has the following characteristics:
- This model encourages self-reflection in a professional and methodical way. It
promotes improvement in daily professional practice and in realizing professional tasks.
- An individual’s function and role, professional biography, professional competence
and mode of operation in organizations are examined. Special emphasis is given to reflection
on how each of these factors interact and influence the quality of professional work
- The main goal is the learning of self-reflective behaviour as a means to continuous
improvement of professional work and professional competence.
Reflective Coaching is delivered by qualified supervisory coaches who have
undertaken a two-year post academic course. Supervisory coaches are certified members of
ANSE (Association of National
Organizations for Supervisory Coaches in Europe).
Certified Registered supervisory coaches have undertaken to conduct themselves in accordance
with the ANSE Code of Conduct.
